This morning I finished work and was asked to pick a Smart TV for the backroom, preferably around 40". I tried to put the family off as the backroom was nowhere near sorted.

Well after finding out the new car may well be delayed for a couple of days we went to pick a TV. So I found a nice Samsung 40" Smart LED TV for a good price with two NOW TV boxes in with the mix.

Then I was told it was actually for me and my room.

So now on my bedroom computer table is a Samsung laptop, Samsung LED TV (with NOW TV, SkyGo and Netflix) and Tassimo coffee maker. Yay me.

Kinja'd!!!

Oh, and many Guinness.

You can hook up that TV to your laptop and use it as a giant monitor. Then, switch it to TV mode when you want to watch TV.

Just need to source another HDMI cable and a couple of other things.

Remember with HDMI cables, if it works at all, it’s good. There’s no such thing as high fidelity digital cables. Don’t go buy overpriced crap like monster cables.

I’m pretty much, if it works, it works. I don’t buy into hype.

“if it works at all, it’s good”

How long it lasts is important too. Cheap cables (of any type) usually have crappy connectors that break in some way after you’ve connected and disconnected the cable a few times. It’s worth buying something a little better than the cheapest you can find.

I bought pretty much the cheapest cables I could from Amazon (with descent reviews, something like $7) and after many weekend moves to friends places for gaming they haven’t given me any trouble. YMMV.

Sometimes you’ll do just fine that way; other times the $10-12 ones (or similar price ratio, whatever the price) can be significantly better quality. YMMV as you say.
